Clint Hansen is an Iowa native and fifth generation artist designing and hand-crafting one-of-a-kind scratchboard renderings for gallery, commercial and home settings. His award-winning art is represented in private, public and corporate collections.

Artist Statement


Art is my first language. I had a crayon in hand before I could speak. Growing up, I watched my father and grandfather weld metal, transforming it into whatever they imagined. My great grandfather was the town blacksmith. There was nothing those men couldn’t invent or create. As a kid, I drew up plans for a 3 wheeled recumbent bike before there was such a thing. Shared the dream with my grandfather and it wasn’t a month later we were riding it all over the neighborhood. Creativity & ingenuity rendered nothing impossible.  
 
My great-great grandfather carved combs from horns in Denmark. My grandfather and mother painted and my daughter is an outstanding artist. I am fulfilled when creating and have been doing so professionally for 35 years. My heritage is rich, my life is blessed. 
 
It is hard to describe the simple pleasure in seeing potential in a found object, concepting a creative way to communicate a complex thought, or solving a difficult problem - then working with my hands to create something that brings others joy. I welcome the opportunities to share dreams and translate them through created artwork.

Clint is not only an extremely talented artist, his heart and soul are in every piece he creates. I can't imagine a more seamless process than working with Clint Hansen on the Iowa State Traditions mural for the ISU Alumni Center. Clint's vision was creative and insightful, yet he never made our committee feel like we were intruding on his creative process when we suggested changes. The finished product speaks for itself -- I think it's one of the most outstanding works of art on a campus that's nationally known for its public art.
